Mara Grey is a Celtic harper who has performed at many fairs and festivals around Puget Sound, including the Camlann Medieval Faire, Folklife Festival and the St. Patrick's Day Irish Cabaret in Everett. In 1990, she performed at the Global Forum in Rio de Janeiro with Esther "Little Dove" John, a well-known flautist.
Exploring the connection between music and healing is important to her and she play regularly at the University of Washington Medical Center, both for patients in the waiting room of the Cancer Center, in the chemotherapy room and on the oncology floor. She also performs monthly in the lobby for staff, visitors and patients.
Though grounded in the style of Celtic harp music, which involves more variations and ornamentation than classical harp, she branches out toward the modern idiom in her own compositions, centered about her experiences with nature.
Mara has been teaching for over twelve years and specializes in starting beginners on the harp in a way that is easy, relaxed and immediately effective. Two one hour lessons a week apart are needed to start off, and then you can progress at your own speed.
Mara will meet you at your home in the Greater Seattle area, at your convenience, $30 per hour long lesson.
